Virtually everyone has old, expired medications sitting around the house. How do you safely dispose of them? On Saturday, June 14, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful is having their seventh annual Medication Collection at three locations in the area. Prescription, over-the-counter, and veterinary medications, inhalers and mercury-filled thermometers will be accepted at each site. Needles, sharps, illegal drugs, and bio-hazardous materials will not be accepted.
The three sites are Machesney Town Center, south parking lot, 8750 North Second, 9am-2pm; South Beloit Fire Department, 429 Gardner Street, 9am-Noon; and Belvidere Township Building, 8200 Fairgrounds Road, 9am-Noon. For more information, click here.
Unwanted medications should never be flushed down the toilet, placed in the trash, or given or sold to others. Keep medications out of the waste system. Last year, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful protected three billion gallons of drinking water based on the quantity of medications collected at the three sites.
