Funny how things change

I moved to Rockford in 2000.  I came here as a huge hockey fan, but the Chicago Blackhawks we not on my radar.  I was all about the St Louis Blues.  It seems like yesterday that it was announced that OUR IceHogs would now be part of the Blackhawks organization.  TT and I had the chance to speak with Denis Savard, and I joked how I had hated him all of my life, because of what he did to the Blues.  I didn't know if I wanted to jump on the Haks bandwagon.  "We're not sure if we want you!" was the legendary Savards response.  I didn't know how I would feel about this new American Hockey League.

After about a month on the road to begin the season our "new" IceHogs started to roll in.  Colin Fraser, Troy Brouwer, Jordan Hendry, Kris Versteeg, just to name a few.  It was great to cheer for them while they were IceHogs, but then they got the call to become Blackhawks. I had to cheer for them.  It was only natural.

These guys may not have all loved the city of Rockford while they were here, but it is great to know that they haven't forgotten their time here.  They understand that part of what they have become was here in Rockford, and it is great they they will take time aknowledge that.

We hope to speak with a couple of "our friends" over the next couple of days as they bask in the championship light.  I hope you get a chance to hear what winning at the highest level feels like.

Later today we will talk with Colin Fraser, oddly enough I can't find a photo interviewing him.
